What's in Our Bull DNA?
Three of our male Bull cousins recently had their DNA tested at the Ancestry laboratory. Each cousin did a swab test from the inside of their mouth which contains a complete copy of their genetic blueprint. They each sent their swabs into the lab where a 46 marker test was performed to find their paternal DNA which is passed basically unchanged from father to son. We learned that all 3 Bull cousins matched on all 46 markers exactly, which means they all come from the same Bull line and now we have our own Bull group. Our Haplotype is J2a1b, which means that our ancient ancestors came from the fertile crescent area (presently this area is Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq) and migrated into Europe about 5,000 years ago. What do we hope to glean from these DNA results? Our Bull family has wondered for years if we are connected to the South Carolina Bulls (Stephen & Barnaby Bull who emigrated from England in 1670) or the Connecticut or Albany, NY area Bull line. If these other Bull lines have their DNA tested we may be able to prove, or disprove, if we have a common ancestor. Select the DNA strand to view the test results.
